Nepal is a country that is highly dependent on India for several essential resources. At the same time, 70% of the exports are made to India. However, the recent political issue shows that the country has given a blow to the bilateral relations in different ways. A visit was scheduled by the government of KP Oli with Bidhya Devi Bhandari, the president in Delhi.
The appointment was scheduled to begin in Delhi on May 9th and this was on the grounds of lack of enough preparations. According to Political News in Hindi, on this incidence, Oli called the High Commissioner of India, who is also a Nepali Congressmen, Deep Kumar Upadhay. Among other things, his involvement in toppling the government was greatly alleged.
On May 4th, the UPCN Chief Prachanda made a decision regarding the withdrawal of support with the Oli government. This decision came on the heels of such a dramatic announcement after a visit to the president of National Congress at New Delhi. According to the reports given by the sources, Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president was giving final touches to the deal of coalition with the Maoists. It was alleged that this move was a call to support India.
As far as the power play of the two neighbouring countries are concerned, involvement of China and India in the politics of Nepal, comes as no surprise that the single largest party in Nepal, the NC that comes with 196 seats. It is believed that it might deal with the Maoists as well.
Even in October 2015, the move made by Oli was more or less the same. The Communist Party of Nepal had 175 seats, and they withdrew their support from the congress led coalition. This in turn made Oli the Prime Minister by winning over the support of the Maoists, the adversary. However, it can be easily said that it was not at all a happy coalition because the Maoists were not in agreement with the anti-Madhesi stance of Oli.
On the contrary, it was Oli who denied any sort of chance to the Maoists in appointing their nominees to the judiciary and even the bureaucracy. A senior analyst claimed that the protests made by Prachanda resulted in great allegations of war crime against the issue of re-surfacing.
The Executive Editor of a popular Hindi News Online portal claimed that the Maoists had been in continuous discussion for the last two months with NC. Things have definitely moved on since then, but it was definitely not the way that the stakeholders had always wanted. Several sources reported that China was heavily displeased with the move of the Maoists. Accordingly, it wanted the continuation of the coalition. At the same, it has been confirmed by Khada that the Chinese are in favour of the coalition.
Some say that Prachanda greatly surrendered to the pressure made by the Chinese, while some others are of the view that India did not extend its timely support to the coalition of NC and Maoist.
